| I'll have to think on it a bit but there are some very good name possibilities with that pedigree! I loves his little solid ears, what a cutie! | |

| Thanks for the compliments all and the name suggestion. I also like it but want to see what lolla comes up with ;o). She's very good at the name game. Our other mare who is due the 7th seems to be getting soft but it could just be my imagination. | |

| Looks like his legs are getting better but still not just right. Vet said nothing to worry about. We are working on a larger turnout area so that he might get more exercise and hope that will help. Will probably put him in pasture in a week or so. He's just so full of fire! He jumped up and kicked his mom no less than 3 times within the space of an hour! And like the other colts I've had he also was rearing up and pestering her in the front..lol.. He's a real corker and I have to find the perfect barn name to reflect his rowdy personality. Maybe Rowdy..lol.. Here are the pics.. I rather like him. I missed several wonderful pics yesterday with his tongue lolling out to one side or another ;o).. Forgot my memory card. What a handsome boy! loves the salty taste of skin. coming in for a face scratch. . | |

| Ruby did the tongue thing too! Made me wonder about her but it was just her personality! | |

Well that would most likely work better..lol.. We actually separated mom because she wasn't quite as detached as we wanted her. Though she has never been aggressive, she always put herself between us and the baby when she felt he was in distress. Since we put them in pasture, she is much more laid back. She was actually a little more protective of this one than Mudpie. Maybe because there were 3 of us in the stall from the beginning and this little guy was on the ground for at least an hour or so before we knew it! We haven't haltered him since the first time but plan on working with him again soon. I halter trained rascal in the pasture with his mom. I spent 2 weeks rubbing the halter and clanging it around so he got used to the sounds and feel of it. I never had any problems at all. He has never cared that we put a halter on him and still doesn't. This little guy is way hotter than any of the babies we've had so far! What a little firecracker..lol.. He should prove to be fun I think. He's very sweet and comes up for scratches and rubs but is very mouth aggressive from the beginning. Even when he had no teeth he'd get a hold of you and was amazingly strong pushing against your arm. got to be careful now that he's getting teeth. Thanks for the tip. I think maybe that's why Rascal was ok with leading. I didn't even realize I was doing it the right way ;o).. Hopefully, it will make a difference for this little guy too. One thing I'm going to try to do this time that I did not know about before is teaching him to lower his head when pressure is applied to the poll. Sage was trained to do that and it is ever so much easier for a short gal to get a halter on..lol.. | |
